Payment-in-Lieu-of-Tax (PILOT)
The City of Bartlett and Shelby County may offer incentives to stimulate business attraction, retention, redevelopment, and expansion. One of the most popular local incentives is the ‘Payment in Lieu of Taxes’ (PILOT) program. This program incentivizes companies to invest in a community by offsetting property tax expenses that might otherwise prevent an acceptable return on investment.
Companies that obtain a PILOT will continue to pay the Bartlett and Shelby County real and/or personal property tax rate that is due for the property at the time of the PILOT’s issuance. An increase in property taxes as a result of the project will be abated 75%, and realized as savings to the company. The length of the PILOT will be determined by the project’s size and economic impact on the community.
