Over the past decade Northeast Shelby County has emerged as Tennessee’s “Life Science Corridor” and one of North America’s leading centers for innovation in medical device technology. |

Currently, over forty life science companies do business in the area and most of them call the Northeast Shelby County area home. These companies range in products from generic and specialty pharmaceuticals to state of the art medical devices and equipment. Many of these “home grown” companies have matured into competitive world-class leaders in their respective fields and/or have become major first-tier suppliers within their industry. |

Best known for its concentration of medical device companies, the Northeast Corridor is home to two major world players – Smith & Nephew and Wright Medical. Medtronics’ Spinal Division is also based in Memphis just 15 minutes from the Corridor. These three industry giants have been the primary catalyst for the Northeast Corridor’s growth in Life Science. Their continued investments and commitment to the area will insure that the Corridor remains a viable location for Life Science technology and innovation in decades to come. |

Within the pharmaceutical industry the Corridor is well represented by two locally based multimillion dollar companies – Accredo, that delivers specialty drugs to thousands of patients throughout the US, and TopRx, that specializes in providing independent drugstore owners with generic drugs. Pfizer also maintains a major back office and distribution facility in the Corridor. |

The dynamic growth of home spun businesses is a testament to the region’s entrepreneurial spirit and the core competence of its business leaders. However, more and more national and international firms are being attracted to the Corridor as they recognize the benefits and advantages of establishing a presence in the area. |
